“Inter-religious and intercultural dialogue of Civilizations:
On 26 October, 2007 in Park INN Hotel,
Dan Ulduzu Hall is organized opening ceremony of International
Forum entitled “Inter-religious and intercultural dialogue
of Civilizations: East and West Youth Cooperation Initiatives”
In the opening session participated the honorable guests-
the first secretary of Royal Norwegian Embassy in Baku
Mr. Richard Scarborough, Deputy Chairman of the Committee
on work with religious structures Mr. Elcin Asgerov, Deputy
Minister of Education Mr. Elmar Qasimov, representative
of Public-Political Department of Presidential Administration
of Azerbaijan Republic Mr. Vugar Salimov, Members of Parliament
of Azerbaijan Republic Mrs. Malahat Hasanova and Mr. Fuad
Muradov and representatives of international and national
organizations and Mass Media.
Chairman of AAYSA and project coordinator
Mr. Vugar Ahmadov made an opening speech. He noted that
this Forum is aimed to exchange practices of inter-religious
dialogue by young people, their organizations and local,
national and international authorities and to propose
ways through which inter-religious and intercultural dialogue
can be further sustained through and as a result of the
“all different-all equal” campaign and other relevant
initiatives. According to his words in this event young
people, young politician leaders, representatives of international
youth organizations and civil society representatives
came from US, European, Middle East and Asian countries.
He noted that AAYSA together with partner
organizations initiated the organization of the Forum
for the promotion of inter-religious and intercultural
dialogue and co-operation by young people in the framework
of the “All Different, All Equal” European Youth Campaign.
Within the Forum is organized discussions on the topics
such as: Islamaphobia in Europe: realities and prospective,
the role of young people in building civil dialogue among
the east and west communities, youth participation in
building civil, democratic, peaceful and prosperous society
in the eastern civilization, intercultural integration
and inter-religious dialogue among the eastern and western
civilizations, the ways of escaping from Islamaphobia,
the reasons of confrontation and crash between civilizations,
the prospective of cooperation and dialogue between eastern
and western civilizations, youth participation role in
dialogue building and youth exchange prospective among
western and eastern communities.
Member of Parliament of Azerbaijani Republic
Mrs. Malahat Hasanova stressed in her keynote speech about
the importance of organization of this Forum and the role
of young people in developing inter-religious and intercultural
dialogue of Civilizations. She very highly appreciated
the all initiatives and projects of Azerbaijani-American
Youth Social Association which addressed very actual and
significant topics in their activity.
Deputy Minister of Education Mr. Elmar
Qasimov told in his speech about the importance of non-formal
education of young people and promotion the tolerance,
human rights education, peace and cooperation in their
community.
Deputy Chairman of the Committee on work
with religious structures Mr. Elcin Asgerov gave information
to the guests and international participants about the
religious tolerance level in Azerbaijan and the function
of religious organizations.
First secretary of Royal Norwegian Embassy
in Baku Mr. Richard Scarborough also expressed his gratitude
for organizing such an interesting and important international
meeting.
All other guests and international participants
talked about the topics and future prospective of the
Forum and the role of young people in building peace and
tolerance between civilizations and youth participation
in overcoming the clash of civilizations and achieving
strong cooperation between eastern and western civilizations.
It is necessary to note that as the result of the meeting
is established international platform-“East-West Youth
Cooperation and Dialogue Alliance” Organization.
At the end of the meeting Chairman of
AAYSA Mr. Vugar Ahmadov provided with the information
the attended guests and participating young leaders about
the program of the Forum which planned to continue three
days in Baku and include keynote sessions, presentations,
discussions in the groups and workshops. In the conclusion
speech Mr. Vugar Ahmadov expressed his appreciation for
supporting such project and for coming guest.
